China Mobile Aims to Reach 400 Million 5G Users and 370 Million IoT Connections by 2022

China Mobile recently announced that the company strives to reach 400 million 5G subscribers in 2022 by expanding its 5G network coverage in rural areas across China, the China Daily reported on November 3. According to China’s MIIT (Ministry of Industry and Information Technology), Chinese telecom operators deployed 1.16 million 5G base stations across China as of October 2021, 560,000 stations of which were built by China Mobile. In addition, the company also expects to have 370 million IoT connections by 2022. Coupled with 134 international 5G projects and 3,300 5G patents. China has built the world’s largest 5G network with its 5G connections accounting for more than 80% of the world’s total. By 2025, MIC predicted global 5G shipment volume will top 1.1 billion units and account for 73.8% of the total smartphones with a CAGR (Compound Annual Growth Rate) of 29.4% during the period 2020-2025.
